What laptop do you suggest for storing music, songs and also to do college work?

I’m buying a laptop today, and I want a laptop that is quickly, various programs can play DVDs and have to save lots of space for pictures and music. Preferably, and under $ 1000 Please help me out! :) Thanks, I do not know what you’re looking at a laptop, because I’ve never had one.
